Restaurant Coconuts opened its doors for the first time in 1979 after successfully restoring Zihuatanejos oldest building. Much of the timber in the bar area is original and the site has seen some amazing transformations throughout its 150 year life time.

Built first as part of the Ingrana Family Hacienda as a weighing station for the surrounding area which at the time was a coconut plantation stretching out to include what is now know as Ixtapa. Later, during the Mexican revolution in 1910 the building was confiscated and used as a field hospital. After the war the area was split up into several smaller haciendas and divided amongst the residents and workers from the area who today make up Zihuatanejos oldest families. Finally in the late 1970s the building was bought, painstakingly renovated and opened officially as Restaurant Coconuts more than 25 years ago.

In many ways we try to continue the constant history of evolution and transformation of the building with our attitudes, projects, wine list and food. Showcasing not only established but also up-and-coming artists in our art shows has become a social event and a opportunity for tourists and locals to meet and chat to renowned mexican artists from many different fields. Also we host local fundraising parties to support cultural events and local charities. On season we also feature live music 7 days a week, changing nightly, from award winning flamenco guitarists to local salsa guitarists and percussionists. The wine list is made up predominantly of a mix of south and central american, mexican and american wines. We do however also source wines from as far away as Australia and Europe.

We pride our selves on attentive service while still making sure our guests feel as comfortable and relaxed as they would in their own homes.
